Meet your Trainer: Arrow Gonsalves

Public Speaker | International Bestselling Author | TEDX Presenter | Master Trainer, Master Healer of The Tao Healing Arts

Founder Heart Drum Beat Brain & Body Training Academy | Creator of Human Energetics | Owner The House of Now Wellness Center in Courtenay BC

Avidly athletic and insatiably curious about the mysteries of the universe and human potential from a young age, Arrow was born into a family with a brain & body wellness emphasis. Her Father was a Brain Specialist who was the first operator of the CTV (CAT) Scan and ran the neurology departments of the University of Toronto, Sunnybrook Teaching Hospital and St Michael’s Hospital. Her mother was a Social Worker and Horticulturist. Her maternal Grandfather was a Pharmacist in London in the days of traditional compounding.

Instructing since 2003; Arrow provides Shinsundo (a 9700 year Taoist training method) expertly integrating it with modern neuroscience for the ultimate form of personal development and ki-energy cultivation. Using Tao Yoga, Qigong, Meditation and traditional lessons of the Tao, her step by step method is delivered through her signature program ‘Human Energetics’, Adventure Retreats, Workshop Facilitation, Leadership Training and Traditional Healer Training.

Arrow helps people restore health and balanced empowerment while awakening their innate being. Students regain purpose, joy, compassion and wonder through study of self as part of the way of nature. Her lessons systematically incorporate Meridian Exercise, Chakra Training, Energy Healing, Brain Education and both dynamic and static forms of Chant and Meditation.

Over 2 decades teaching these lessons I can’t tell you the number of times I’ve heard my students express deep gratitude along with shock they weren’t raised with this basic knowledge of self and their place in the universe in their tool kit for life.  How it changes their outlook forever, that they want to change that for their family and friends.”

Retreat Details: Accommodations - Itinerary - Cancellation Policy

The Retreat Site is a 17 acre woods and meadow site situated on Hornby Island, located in Tribune Bay Provincial Park  in the Georgia Strait off the east coast of Vancouver Island.  It is a lovely mixture of groomed and natural setting, allowing for comfortable navigation and immersion in nature. The park has 200 acres of first and second growth forest, open meadow and field areas and a kilometre of sandy beach that slopes gently into Tribune Bay, allowing the tidal waters to warm significantly in the summer. Hornby Island and specifically Tribune Bay Provincial Park, is an ideal location for an outdoor education facility offering four season experiential outdoor programs. Hornby Island has a moderate coastal climate, wide variety of marine and land-based natural history sites and evidence of ancient human social interaction.

Raving Reviews About The Tao of Hornby Island Retreat

The retreat was absolutely fabulous! I enjoyed everything about it. The location, people, classes, qigong, food, activities and accommodations were all great.

I especially enjoyed the knowledge and teachings that Arrow provided. She is a special person and I am very grateful to have learned from her.  I realized that in order to take the next step in my life’s journey, I need to open my mind and clear any obstacles that are preventing me from making that next step. I realized this as I walked through the labyrinth and when I made it to the center, my mind was totally clear and open to all new possibilities in life. I shall use this as my next launching point to the next step in my life’s journey.

An excellent retreat and I’ll highly recommend it to other people I know.

I love my Dahn Jons!! J  I loved learning about the Korean form of awakening.  I loved the beach and doing exercises outside.  I enjoyed the labyrinth.  I really appreciated learning more about Qigong.  More please.  If we could have had more Qigong as an option that would have been great!

I learned that I must have physical activity daily…it’s reinforced.  The combination of meditative exercises relieves the stress of the brain along with the body.  Perfect combo!  I love my Dahn Jons!! J  That was great to learn about myself.  My feet are alive.  Awakening my deeper understanding of my chakras was excellent.

Thanks so much to Alex and Elliot for the tree walking.  I walked the line!!!  His steady calm assuring voice helped me get through some blockages of climbing up to heights that give me vertigo. It was such an accomplishment for me to succeed at that feat.  I was truly scared – I’m so grateful I did it. J

Thank you Arrow <3

More than I expected, so much more.  I have been alone for so long it took a while for me to be comfortable with all the chatter and all the people around me.  I now cherish and love the wonderful energy around me as I did a year ago.  NO MORE ISOLATION FOR ME!!

I learned how to love myself again.  I believe I have been punishing myself for allowing someone to dictate who I am for so long.  That will never happen again.

“It was serendipitous how I came to be a part of it and I feel blessed and grateful to have had such a profound experience which came at the perfect time for me. I reconnected with myself on many levels and once again confirmed how important it is for me to get into my body in order to connect with my power and release the hold that thoughts can have. It was the perfect balance of realigning energy work with outdoor activities and overwhelmingly stunning nature, all interlinked and a wonderful intro to Tao which I have known about but not worked with this closely before. I felt very connected with it and it resonated with me. I’m happy I can take practices learned this weekend and incorporate them into my daily life.

Having Spirit the dog there was also something new for me which was a beautiful experience where I felt a true connection with the Natives and the land they held so sacred. It was truly profound to connect with the Earth on that level. I loved it and thought it had a perfect balance and flow. Thank you so much for this inspiring weekend.”

“Wonderful! Better than expected as I loved every single moment & it’s rare that each activity can be so equally satisfying! I thought the balance of “fun” activities with “instruction sessions” was perfect as everything felt experiential, complimentary & kept the energy flowing. I think it was a perfect “intro” to the energy healing work for those who are still considering if it is for them. I feel more confident in the practice all the time & can feel the benefits more & more. Seeing others learning things about the practice for the first time makes me realize how far I’ve come. I also learned that I am infinitely grateful for my life.”

“The retreat was amazing! I truly enjoyed the experience and came home feeling more connected in both my internal and external environments. I really enjoyed the journey to Hornby. Upon arrival the warm welcome and introduction to our cabana was great. The accommodation was comfortable and clean. The outhouses close to us were clean and I really appreciated the wash station and cook house facilities. Coffee before bows was wonderful. The meals were filling and tasty. I really appreciated having the meals and accommodation being part of the package. Haeley, Jessie and their staff were welcoming, accessible, receptive, open and wonderful.”

“It was wonderful. The venue was great and the view awesome. I felt quite calm & relaxed the whole time. Arrow, your demeanor keeps people feeling this way and it helps everyone build and work together as well as play together. People were very kind and helpful to me. I felt embarrassed but I was humbled at the same time.”

“Was a wonderful experience. I was able to realize that I was missing this element of self-care in my life. So easy to get wrapped up in life’s currents and forget about self. This retreat took me back to realizing I have been neglecting body, mind and spirit.

The location was absolutely breathtaking!

The retreat was absolutely AMAZING.  I felt so connected with the whole program on a spiritual, physical and emotional level.  The retreat being out in nature truly grounded and left me with feelings of CONNECTEDTIVENESS.  The team work was so fulfilling and our Instructor and helpers were AMAZING!!!!  The guys were patient and kind with the physical activities and the food was DELICIOUS!!

I learnt that I can have more confidence in my physical being.  I learnt that growing older doesn’t mean I have to stagnate my mind and body, that I can feel younger and more vital by being kinder to myself and my limitations.  I especially loved having this time with my daughter to experience this journey at the retreat with her! <3

I wouldn’t change a thing.  Thank-you Arrow for a truly memorable and life changing experience J

Awesome!  Right from day one, people I have never met came together as one.  I felt I was at a family reunion; I have made many new friends that I know I will continue to keep in contact with.

Arrow is an amazing Instructor!  Clearly explaining how and why we were doing the things we were doing. I came away from the retreat with a better understanding of how I can focus on & succeed in doing things that I felt uncomfortable doing.

The Outdoor Education Center staff were great.  The food was outstanding! Everything was great and it’s difficult to say what would be done more or differently.

The retreat in microcosm mirrored elements of my healing journey this year.  I moved from position of some awkwardness, doubt & other heavy emotions & sensations in my body to a place that is clear, resonant, full of grounded, properly contained, yet easy/loose conviction in myself & personal power.  My sense of purpose, joy, trust & love in others has been re-energized.  I regained feelings of passion for my life’s purpose & leave with immense gratitude in the people, powers and loving encouragement we’ve shared.

I learned that I am truly as strong & loving as I need & want to be, and that learning & magic & recovery are always possible,  I learned again how to feel deep sense of empathy without harming myself by over-identifying with – internalizing other’s pain – healing journey.  I am my own amazing person, capable, calm, open to experiences of great depth, synchronicity & especially personal & ancestral reconciliation I now have within.

I sincerely appreciated the gentle emphasis that we were all on our own healing journeys & must do what is personally right & necessary.

The Tao of Hornby Island Retreat – 2017

Vanessa Scott

It was a wonderful experience.  I love trying new things.  I am intrigued by the human brain and the connection of mind, body and spirit.  So this was a learning experience as well as an affirmation of my own philosophy.  I appreciated the leadership and guidance.  It helped me to focus on the meditation and allowed me to push myself to a deeper level.

I learned that I can relax and control my brain.  I experienced something that I have been striving for… to calm my brain.

I love the setting – would not change it. I felt very comfortable and at ease with my peers and I love that we all come from unique experiences and are united for this brief time.  There was a very positive sincere energy.

“I thoroughly enjoyed the retreat. I loved the combination of camping, recreation activities, no cooking, and the structured Heart Drum Beat activities. Lovely group of people, I hope to keep in contact with some of them. I had wanted to go to the Outdoor Ed Centre ever since my kids came back vibrating about how much fun they had had, so this was an opportunity not to be missed! Thanks, Arrow, for a wonderful weekend.”

This retreat was even more than what I thought it would be. It was lovely to be with like-minded people and I had fun!  I let all my anxiety/stress stay away from Hornby Island Retreat. I am love. I accept where I am now because it’s where I need to be. I feel I’m leaving here with a family that I made for myself.

I realize that I also have a story worth telling, and I feel more open to accepting that it’s okay not to know where I come from. I have a deeper level of respect for my bloodline for rejecting me – they gave me the ability to create a wide open path for myself. One that changes the future from the family of origin…to be continued

The Tao of Hornby Island Retreat – 2017

Isabelle Snow

Very excellent!.  I’ve wanted a wonderful retreat this summer.  My friend Kathie contacted me & told me about it.  I love the good atmosphere.  I’ve never been to Hornby, it’s a perfect place – everyday the energy was great.

I learned that I am open to more awareness, without going into sadness about poor me, acceptance to whatever it is, it is, a breakthrough!!  Calmness I’ve been working on in the last couple of years, I love being with like-minded people.  It’s very refreshing & good start/reminder to continue on the right path when things go wrong/sideways in my life.

Arrow, I loved all the explanation as you were going through the moves.  It really makes sense. =)

I’m leaving with a positive outlook.  The meditation & qigong is so exciting and beneficial.  Thank you Arrow for your talent, calmness & keeping a group on task. I look forward to doing this again.

The treat (retreat was a treat 🙂 ) was everything I desired and more. The blend of activities, location and dynamics of the group was amazing. I currently feel a deep sense of calm and energy flow.

This was a “10” for sure!

Teresa Roscoe

The weekend was full of life.  Outdoors was lovely.  The beach, the walks, the enthusiasm!

I learned that everything can heal.  Belief in myself can have me accomplish things I haven’t thought possible. The brain never dies, it just gets stagnant. The more I give it space by de-cluttering, the more the capacity for new information expands.

Enjoyed the entire group & their willingness to be totally here. The staff & food was awesome.

The Tao of Hornby Island Retreat – 2017

Grace Morse

“The retreat was wonderful! I was feeling anxiety while coming to the retreat on Friday. Part of it was my inexperience at allowing time to relax. I have a habit of keeping busy. Much of my life is more solitary so I was also anxious about being comfortable in a group. The group participation and support just got better leading up to the “Leap of Faith” which was highly supportive. Simply stated, the retreat has further encouraged me to “grow my soul” and be myself.
I was relieved to be accepted as part of the group early on Friday afternoon. From then on I found I could relax and focus more inwardly. A big part of my personal development right now is to simply be myself. A big part of that is “acceptance” in a community of people. Much of my personal strength is drawn from pleasure found in the natural environment. It was wonderful to be in a setting surrounded by nature.
The group message was wonderful on a personal level as well as for community building. Please do that again. ”
